This particular client was introduced to us by an accountant that could see their client needed to change how they were doing things but did not know where to start.  They had spent a lot of time going round in circles about how to set themselves up for the future but could not break the cycle of inaction.

We began the journey as we do with many potential clients which was to just have a chat with them about their business, the ambition and their plans.  

From that it became clear that they would benefit from an Explorer Session with us to start getting into the detail of their current situation and to clarify goals.  

We prepared for this session by getting hold of some key documents and information which was important so that we were ready but also to ensure that the session itself would not get bogged down in lots of detail.   That could come later.

We went through all sorts of things during the session to provide some context to how the business had become what it was now and to where the business was heading in the future.  

We then spent some time reflecting on what we learned that day and produced an action plan based on three possible alternative approaches.    Each approach had advantages and disadvantages but all were possible.  Some were quick solutions, some better solutions and some cheaper solutions.   

The preferred solution needed to work for the people concerned because ultimately it is their business and they need to live with the solution they chose.

This took a period of reflection but also allowed them time to consult with other stakeholders that would either be affected by their decision or would need to be part of the solution going forward.

Ultimately a decision was made on their preferred approach and we set about developing the action plan into an implementation and advisory plan based on the chosen route.  This set them up to implement the plan which we help with as required.

Going forward, we will work more closely with them on their future property transactions so they fit with the business structure they now have in place.
